Opening Doors to the World

Studying Modern Languages at KEVIGS is about much more than vocabulary and grammar—it’s about becoming a global citizen. Students are encouraged to think empathetically, consider different perspectives, and understand cultures and societies from around the world. Learning a language broadens horizons, opens new ways of thinking, and develops skills essential for both academic and personal life.

Through our curriculum, students learn to communicate effectively and confidently, using linguistic and grammatical knowledge to speak and write persuasively. They also develop the skills to write well-structured essays, carry out research on current affairs, politics, and social or historical issues, and analyse information critically, recognising patterns and trends.

Curriculum

Key Stage 3

At KS3, students build the foundation for future success at GCSE. They develop accuracy, fluency, and confidence across a wide range of topics, learning to express themselves clearly and respond to new contexts. Lessons focus on grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills while encouraging students to explore cultural perspectives and compare attitudes and societies.

Key Stage 4

Our KS4 course follows the AQA Modern Languages specification and is delivered over a two-year programme. Students enhance their existing skills, developing complex grammar, sophisticated vocabulary, and confidence in all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course challenges high achievers, promotes independent thinking, and encourages creativity and problem-solving in real-life language use.

Curriculum Maps

Curriculum Maps show what students will learn in each subject and when. They give students a clear sense of progression and help parents understand how knowledge and skills are built over time across the school year.
