History
Understanding the Past, Shaping the Future
Studying History at KEVIGS helps students make sense of the world around them. By exploring the past, learners gain a deeper understanding of current events and the forces that have shaped modern society. History also develops essential life skills, supporting success in everyday situations and future careers.
Curriculum
Our History curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in the subject. Students follow a broad and balanced course that builds their understanding of the past while developing them as independent learners, critical thinkers, and confident communicators. You will learn how to organise and communicate historical knowledge in different ways, argue a case using evidence, and reach well-supported judgements.
Key Stage 3
At KS3, students are introduced to a wide range of historical periods and themes that build strong foundations in historical knowledge and skills. Lessons encourage enquiry, debate, and reflection, helping students to think critically about cause and consequence, change and continuity, and significance.
Key Stage 4
At GCSE, we follow the AQA History specification, studying four engaging and diverse units:
- Conflict and Tension, 1918–1939
- Germany: Democracy and Dictatorship, 1890–1945
- Elizabethan England, c1568–1603
- Health and the People, c1000 to the present day
These units allow students to explore political, social, and cultural history while developing strong analytical and evaluative skills.
