Creativity and Digital Skills
At KEVIGS, our Graphics & Media department aims to develop confident, creative, and digitally literate students who can think critically about the visual and media-saturated world around them. We deliver Graphics in Years 7 and 8, providing the creative and technical foundations for later specialisms, and Media Studies from Year 9 through to GCSE and A-Level.
Curriculum
Our ambitious and inclusive curriculum is designed to develop transferable skills in analysis, digital design, and critical thinking. Learning is carefully sequenced from Key Stage 3 to 5, revisiting and deepening knowledge as students progress.
Key Stage 3
In KS3 Graphics, students learn to generate ideas, develop branding, and design promotional materials. They gain hands-on experience with layout, typography, packaging nets, CAD, and digital design tools. Projects such as eco shampoo packaging and festival branding allow students to combine creativity with real-world purpose, building confidence and technical skills through prototyping and visual communication.
Key Stage 4
From Year 9 onwards, students can choose Media Studies. Following the OCR specification, they study how media products communicate meaning through Representation, Audience, Industry, and Language (RAIL). Students analyse a range of set products, including TV drama, newspapers, and music videos, and also produce their own media in response to creative briefs.
Enrichment
Beyond lessons, students can take part in national competitions, school promotional video production, digital design clubs, and cross-curricular creative projects. These opportunities develop teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills—essential for success in education and future careers.
Curriculum Maps
Curriculum Maps show what students will learn in each subject and when. They give students a clear sense of progression and help parents understand how knowledge and skills are built over time across the school year.
