Understanding Our World

At KEVIGS, our Geography curriculum is built on the principles of the Geography Association’s manifesto, “A Different View”. Geography helps students explore the Earth as the home of humankind, making it an essential part of a balanced education.

Curriculum

Our goal is to help students “think like a geographer” by providing the knowledge and skills to understand contemporary challenges facing our planet. Students are encouraged to question, debate, and actively engage with their learning. We make Geography relevant by linking lessons to everyday life and incorporating current events through “Geography in the News” to spark curiosity.

Fieldwork and geographical enquiry are central to the curriculum, allowing students to apply their learning in real-world contexts and develop conceptual understanding through hands-on experiences.

  • Key Stage 3: Fieldwork in school grounds, including microclimate studies, emotional mapping, and local place studies.

  • Key Stage 4 (GCSE AQA): Visits to Skegness to investigate foreshore regeneration and physical studies like beach nourishment.

Four Key Principles

We aim to provide a supportive, enjoyable, and challenging learning environment where students are inspired to become knowledgeable, responsible citizens—aware of their local communities and the wider world.

  • Geographical skills – selecting and using a variety of skills and techniques to interpret and analyse information
  • Human and Physical interactions – interpreting and evaluating the connections between people and environments
  • Scale – understanding local, national, and global perspectives
  • Interpretation and analysis of Space and Place

Curriculum Maps

Curriculum Maps show what students will learn in each subject and when. They give students a clear sense of progression and help parents understand how knowledge and skills are built over time across the school year.
