Business Studies
Understanding the World of Work
Business Studies at KEVIGS helps students explore and engage with the complex world of business. The course encourages students to become informed and confident consumers, employees, and entrepreneurs.
Students are supported to be enquiring, curious, and engaged, discovering just how much they already know about business from their everyday lives. Many students achieve highly in this subject, and it is often one of their top-performing courses.
Curriculum
Key Stage 4
Students opting for this course study the OCR specification for both A Level and GCSE and they will take a holistic approach to investigating businesses.
- Starting point: Analysing the environment within which a business operates, how a business is formed, and the different types of ownership available to entrepreneurs.
- Core business functions: Students will then explore the inner workings of a business by analysing Marketing, Human Resources, Operations, and Finance.
Finally, students will investigate various factors that can inhibit or promote business activity, such as rising or falling interest rates and changes to the economy.
Progression to Sixth Form and Beyond
Students can continue to study Business, or start Economics, in the Sixth Form, and then pursue a relevant course at university, or embark on an apprenticeship (although GCSE Business Studies is not a prerequisite for studying either of these courses at A Level).
We recognise that students learn in a variety of different ways and we try to accommodate this by offering a flexible approach to learning where students can produce certain pieces of work in their own choice of format. All students are challenged to achieve to their best and are supported as necessary to help them achieve this goal.
