Year 12 A-level English Literature Students Visit Oxford

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

Three students, Ellie-Mae Buckley, Carys Knight and Charlotte Davies (pictured left to right by the Radcliffe Camera*, part of the Bodleian Library complex), accompanied by Mr Ellershaw, made the long journey to Oxford on Saturday 18th June. Ellie, Carys and Charlotte participated in an English Subject Exploration Day at St John’s College, a day-long event that offered students from across the country the opportunity to find out about studying English at the University of Oxford. Ellie, Carys and Charlotte attended academic taster sessions, received a tour of St John’s College, and found out about the English undergraduate degree and application process from tutors and current students. Mr Ellershaw also made the time to catch up over coffee with Phoebe Mumby, an ex-student of King Edward’s and Head Girl in 2019-20, who is currently studying English at Oxford, having just successfully completed her second year at Exeter College. Winningly, Phoebe has volunteered to support the students in Year 12 with their applications to Oxbridge. We look forward to toasting the success of Ellie, Carys and Charlotte, wherever they may go, beyond school, in the months to come – and of everyone else who pursues their aspirations, whatever these may be.

*You might have seen the Radcliffe Camera (nearly) stealing the scene from Jodie Comer’s Villanelle in series 2 of Killing Eve (2019).
