The U16 Girls’ Rugby Team played a physically powerful side from Sir John Nelthorpe School on Tuesday 15th March.
Although we lost 17-35, the game was a close contest at three tries to five. The squad demonstrated their resilience and teamwork by keeping possession through multiple phases, fabulous support play and an outstanding defensive structure and line speed.
Captain Lexi McAteer led by example in both attack and defence, making crucial tackles and in grinding out the hard yards over the gain line, as did her teammate Sophie Vickers and, indeed, all of the team.
The three tries from Daisy Marshall, Caitlin Hall and Tabby Haynes were all examples of great individual efforts developed from the whole team working together to create opportunities. Sadly, Izzy Fisher was unable to play due to COVID-19 but, if she had been on the field, her commanding presence at the breakdown may have swung the match in the other direction.
