Encouraging Excellence, Nurturing Talent in Every Individual
At King Edward's we are focused on preparing the vast majority of our children for University entrance. This process begins in Year 9 as our Higher Education Coordinator and Careers Advisors help provide pupils with guidance and advice about their future careers. For those who are confused or uncertain they also receive independent advice and guidance from local and regional career specialists: at this point in Year 11 a small number of our students will consider a career in the Forces or the apprenticeship route. However the overwhelming majority look towards A Levels and University entrance for their chosen career path.
At King Edward's the links we have with Universities and our specialists in this area mean that we are experts in getting our students into University and onto some of the most competitive courses in the country. Our students regularly attend the Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics and the top Russell Group Universities. In addition many will attend one of our local Universities such as Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield, York or Loughborough.
Our Pre-U course is specifically aimed at providing students of all disciplines with the broader skills of independent learning and research that Universities are seeking. In Year 12 our students are taught about the Harvard Referencing system and are encouraged to begin independent research into a topic that is directly related to their degree choice. In Year 13 all students complete a 5000 word independent project at a University standard. The Pre-U enables students to develop their skills and to use this to demonstrate their passion for a subject in their University Application, it also allows the school to refer to the pupils suitability for University study and their advanced skills in our reference.
This expertise has been recognised by the Sutton Trust who have rated King Edward's as one of the highest performing schools for University success rates in Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.
