"The School has achieved its mission to encourage excellence and nurture talent" Ofsted
King Edward's is one of the oldest schools in the country, older than Harrow or Eton and many of the other famous Independent Schools. Alfred Lord Tennyson the famous poet and author was one of our many distinguished former pupils but our list of Alumni includes many other famous adventurers, explorers and captains of industry like Chris Wright founder of Chrysalis Records.
Today King Edward's still enjoys a central position located at the heart of the Wolds and attracts children from Louth and its villages to Market Rasen in the West, Grimsby and Cleethorpes to the North and Mablethorpe to the East: over a third of our school is made up from pupils who travel to us from these areas.
King Edward's offers an all round education with a strong academic focus. We are consistently one of the top performing schools in Lincolnshire, the East Midlands and are ranked as one of the top 200 state schools in the United Kingdom. However, it is not enough to leave King Edward's with a good set of results. Our mission is to encourage excellence and nurture talent in every aspect of a child's life. All children have unique and individual talents and we believe it is our role to identify those talents and help to develop them.
We agree with the views of John Cridland Director of the CBI who argues that business needs "individuals who are both well grounded in education but also well rounded in terms of personality". Furthermore we strongly support Professor Robert Winston's views - he actively looks for researchers who possess strong academic skills but are also team players "I would rather have young people around me who developed other interests at university and didn’t just focus entirely on getting that first. It’s produced a lot of useful science because we’ve worked as a group of friends, a team. That’s very much more important than almost anything else." [Professor Robert Winston, Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies, Imperial College London]
Ludensians leave King Edward's and enter careers in many different walks of life. The vast majority will go on to some of the best Universities in the country, Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Bristol, Imperial College London, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, Exeter and many others. Many will then go on to forge high flying careers in far flung parts of the globe and our network of alumni stretches from Horncastle to Hong Kong, Market Rasen to Massachusetts and Louth to London.
