"The School has achieved its mission to encourage excellence and nurture talent" Ofsted
King Edward's has a long and prestigious history of boarding that stretches back over three hundred years. In fact we have been a boarding school for far longer than we have been a day school hence the reason for our wider focus on developing the whole child and our focus on enrichment.
We hope to have our new boarding house open for Sixth Form Boarding in September 2018. It is based next to the school on Crowtree Lane. Tennyson House is being refurbished to the highest standards to ensure that our students can enjoy a 21st century boarding experience in high quality surroundings.
Tennyson House has 40 full-time boarding places which are available for Sixth Form students drawn from the UK, British passport holders living overseas and students with an EU passport: all students must meet the school's Sixth Form entry criteria. For students in these categories there are no tuition fees. Accommodation is available for both male and female students, in single study bedrooms, on single-sex floors within the House. We also have a limited number of larger rooms for those who may want to share.
At King Edward's we believe boarding education should be a richly rewarding and enjoyable time for students; an exciting period of self-development, and a wonderful opportunity for students to learn to live with others before making the transition to university life. As well as this we aim to provide a safe environment in which to feel part of a relaxed, supportive community that seeks to complement and enhance each individual's academic desires, aims and aspirations.
Most importantly we think that boarding as a Sixth Former should be fun. We provide a wide-ranging programme of extra-curricular activities and an active weekend programme driven by the views and interests of the students in the boarding house. All students can join our Combined Cadet Force or get stuck in with our Duke of Edinburgh programme. Our wide ranging music and drama productions mean that there are always artistic opportunities available and with a wide range of sporting fixtures and a cardio vascular fitness suite on site there are a wealth of opportunities to choose from. In addition we have a very active trips and visits programme which will be extended to cover weekend city trips for Sixth Formers.
To register your interest and for a further discussion about the benefits of boarding then please contact the Headmaster directly. Further details about our Sixth Form curriculum, results, destinations of students and details about the Sixth Form entry criteria can be found in the Sixth Form Section of our website.
