Summary

King Edward's is a traditional Grammar School offering an academic curriculum for able children. The School is part of the Consortium of Lincolnshire Grammar Schools which coordinates the Entrance Test and determines the pass mark for all of the Lincolnshire Grammar Schools. Each year the school accepts 120 children into Year 7.

Being centrally located in the Wolds King Edward's attracts applications from Louth and its environs but has traditionally served a wider area stretching from Grimsby to the North, Mablethorpe to the East, Horncastle to the South and Market Rasen to the West. Interestingly King Edward VI's Charter written in 1551 observed that "lads and youths flock thither from surrounding towns and villages" to receive an education at the school.

This diversity is at the heart of our community today and we take able children from about 35 primary feeder schools. This variety is one of the unique features of the King Edward's experience. As an International School we have strong links with a wide variety of different countries through our International Schools Programme but also as part of our Language College Status. We believe that the understanding of another culture and acquisition of at least one, or for some children two or three, additional languages is central to the concept of a good education.

We welcome applications from able children who are at, or who are working towards, Level 5 in their Primary School work. We specialise in Science and Mathematics and have exceptional results in these areas with children regularly achieving 70% A*A at GCSE and 60% A-B at A level.

We are renowned locally and regionally for our strengths in Music and Drama where our productions are organised, rehearsed and performed to exacting professional standards: we especially welcome applications from pupils who have strengths in these areas and are keen to contribute to these traditions.
